Maribyrnong City Council Depot and Administration Office
This project, which was completed in 2012, brought staff from multiple sites together in a single vibrant, practical and uplifting work environment, training facility and home base. The work included refurbishment and DDA and BCA upgrade of a run down administration building, the installation of a new internal platform lift, reception area, training space, staff room, showers and change rooms, storage, staff breakout areas, open plan office, individual offices, utility areas and meeting rooms.
The budget and timing were very tight and a strategic approach was taken to reuse as much of the existing building and materials as possible. The result is a cost-effective design which created a fresh and positive work space which promotes a recycled aesthetic relating to the users’ day-to-day activities.
ESD initiatives included new carpet with 35% recycled content green star certified, locally manufactured highest performing low VOC paint, low formaldehyde board and plywoods, as well as the reuse of an existing building, with materials and linings such as joinery, fixtures and fittings, carpet, floor and wall linings, windows and doors retained and refurbished wherever possible. All existing lighting and mechanical systems were reused.
