Flinders Street Competition
In 2012 we entered our submission for the Flinders Street Station international design competition run by Major Projects Victoria. This brief was to revitalise the station and surrounding areas in the heart of Melbourne along the Yarra River.
Working in collaboration with UK practice Ryder Architecture, our proposal was based on reconnecting the CBD with the river, and developing a new Melbourne Precinct, a response that would enhance the public realm along the riverfront and across the Flinders Street interface between the city and the station, while providing a new central hub station as a vibrant destination point.
A new wildlife corridor extending from the riverfront across the railway and out to the city’s edge would raise public awareness of sustainability. Botanical garden walks over the contained railway system would reference Melbourne’s arcades, and allow an innovative passive design maximising natural light and ventilation, enabling the new Flinders Street Station to be a world leader of inner-city sustainability.
