Fairbairn Park Sporting Facility
This large multi-use pavilion will replace two existing sports pavilions and form the heart of Moonee Valley’s largest sporting precinct. Reusing bluestone from the demolished pavilions together with a palette of natural materials it will sit comfortably in its surroundings.
Key design considerations include resolving the Melbourne Water flood level requirements, DDA access to an elevated building design, sustainability requirements with a view to designing a carbon neutral building, and developing a design to accommodate several different sporting and community groups.
The building, which makes use of gabion walls and sustainably sourced timber screening, has been designed to be electrically and water neutral. It is orientated to maximise natural cross flow ventilation and natural light to all areas, reducing the reliance upon artificial lighting, and provides flexibility for future growth.
